Emily's Olympic Torch Dream
On Tuesday 17 July at exactly 11.54am, Oxted School ‘A’ Level student, Emily Barnes took part in the experience of a lifetime when she ran a leg of the Olympic Torch relay through Tunbridge Wells.
Emily’s nomination was based on her achievements as a cyclist including being a National Champion. Emily is also an athlete on the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes programme. Lloyds TSB Local Heroes, in partnership with Sports Aid, supports future stars of Team GB and Paralympics GB on their journey to London 2012 and beyond.
In front of friends and family including a large number of her fellow students from Oxted School as well as Headteacher Mr Nelson, Emily posed for pictures from the crowd before receiving the flame and completing her section of the relay.
Everyone at School is exceptionally proud of Emily and we are thrilled that her Olympic Torch will spend a few months in School from September and it is sure to pop in an assembly to inspire many other students.
